Batavi pl (plural only)
An ancient Germanic tribe living in the region of Batavia around Nijmegen.
It is believed that it was from this time that the Romans instituted a Herul auxiliary unit, the Heruli seniores, who were stationed in northern Italy and often associated with the Batavian Batavi seniores. Source: Internet
