A coastal region in the northwest of the German federal state of Lower Saxony.

In 1807 Prussian East Frisia and Jever were added to the kingdom but in 1809, after a British invasion, Holland had to give over all territories south of the river Rhine to France.

The lowest point in the state, at about 2.5 metres below sea level, is a depression near Freepsum in East Frisia.
They were paid off and sent to occupy neighboring East Frisia.
