Noun
Edman degradation (countable and uncountable, plural Edman degradations)
A method of sequencing amino acids in a peptide. The amino-terminal residue is labelled and cleaved from the peptide without disrupting the peptide bonds between other amino acid residues.
Detection methods One of the earliest method for protein analysis has been Edman degradation (introduced in 1967) where a single peptide is subjected to multiple steps of chemical degradation to resolve its sequence. Source: Internet
