Well, I'm reading about the battle of New Orleans right now. I've got an ecolectic [sic] reading list.
Whatever I'm reading at the moment seems to influence whatever I'm writing.
I'm reading Our Ecstatic Days, by Steve Erickson. It's an extraordinary journey and the most exciting thing I've found since The Master and Margarita, which I've read about 20 times. I like being taken away somewhere by a book.
I'm reading more than ever. I used to find it tedious, but now it's like my little friend - it takes my mind off things.
Sometimes I do readings and people can't stop laughing, but I'm reading about pretty tragic things. I think Soviet humor is a desperate humor, rather typical of very different nations, of Jewish people, Ukrainians, and of course, Russians. It's despair - just keep laughing, until you are dead.
Between 2 and 5 I'm reading in to find out what's been going on while I've been asleep.
