Moselle Franconian
One of two subgroups of the Central Franconian dialects; spoken in the north-western half of Rhineland-Palatinate, the Siegerland, and parts of eastern Belgium; distinguished from the northern Ripuarian by a number of fairly parallel isoglosses, of which the Moselle Franconian diphthongization of Germanic -ī-, -ū- is the most important.

For those Germans familiar with Moselle Franconian dialects, it is relatively easy to understand and speak Luxembourgish as far as the everyday vocabulary is concerned.
Moselle Franconian dialects outside the Luxembourg state border tend to have far fewer French loan words, and these mostly remain from the French Revolution.
Spoken Luxembourgish is relatively hard to understand for speakers of German who are generally not familiar with Moselle Franconian dialects (or at least other West Central German dialects).
