Noun
public intellectual (plural public intellectuals)
(idiomatic) A well-known, intelligent, learned person whose written works and other social and cultural contributions are recognized not only by academic audiences and readers, but also by many members of society in general.
Being able to provoke a different point of view to the standard current ideological or political perspective as played out in conventional newspaper or radio reportage is what a public intellectual does. But it's not merely about being oppositional, because that's too negative. Susie Orbach
"Bob Marks is an unbelievably prolific public intellectual." Michael Medved. Robert J. Marks II
