silkmoth (plural silkmoths) Any moth whose caterpillar stage is a silkworm, especially Bombyx mori, the domestic silkmoth, but also others in the familes Bombycidae and Saturniidae (as well as the Siberian silkmoth in the Lasiocampidae).
