Zirid (plural Zirids)
(historical) A member of a Sanhaja Berber dynasty, from what is now Algeria, that ruled the central Maghreb from 972 to 1014 and Ifriqiya (eastern Maghreb) from 972 to 1148.
Although his Zirid dynasty was overthrown by Roger II of Sicily in 1148, the Zirids had already lost control of Algiers to their cousins the Hammadids in 1014. Source: Internet
